Sian Cleaver, CCHS Alumna, and the return to the Moon

Posted: 26th January 2026

Last year, Sian Cleaver was the guest speaker at our Senior Speech Day ceremony, held at Chelmsford Cathedral, celebrating the achievements and contributions of our senior students. Sian, who completed her A-level studies at CCHS in 2008, is now a spacecraft engineer at Airbus, and has worked on the Orion spacecraft as part of the Artemis project. Indeed, as the BBC News article linked below highlights, Sian and her colleagues are playing a significant role in the first crewed mission to the Moon in more than 50 years.

Sian is one of the founding patrons of The CCHS Institute, which provides a home and focus for our broad academic enrichment work. We host a range of lectures and seminars, as well as providing a series of essay competitions across each key stage. By so doing, we celebrate the academic enrichment which is so important to our ambitious students. Our Institute speaks to our work as a leading academic school community, inspired to excellence in education and opportunity for girls.

Please do visit our Institute webpage to learn more about Sian’s academic and professional journey, one of so many inspirational stories that distinguish the CCHS Alumnae.
