As part of our Women’s History month today our Psychology department are honouring the great work of Anna Freud, daughter of Freud who built on his ideas and developed the field of Child Psychoanalysis and Child Psychology. During the war Anna set up a ‘War Nursery’ to support children made homeless due to bombing. This led to the development of Child Therapy courses and Mother-Toddler groups to education young mothers how to manage the emotional and physical needs of their children. The Anna Freud Centre in London continues its work on Child and Adolescent mental health to this day and is one of the driving organisations for change and for further support in schools.
