Library

A warm welcome awaits the students and staff who visit the school library where an extensive range of both fiction and non-fiction books can be borrowed for study or leisure reading. Resources are selected not only to fulfil curriculum requirements but also to encourage reading in a wide range of topics and reading lists are provided for students in Years 7 to 9. Student suggestions can be made in the library either for a particular author or for specific titles. The library catalogue can be remotely accessed via the Oliver System enabling searches and reservations to be made. Library Prefects are appointed in Years 10 to 12 for those students eager to involve themselves in the hectic schedule of library events.

Opening Times and Facilities

Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:00pm

There are 22 computers linked to the school server, all with full internet access. There is also a colour printer and scanner available for student use.

This is published each term and contains the latest library information including events happening in the library; teacher reading habits; book reviews and library quizzes.

Author Visits

The library staff arrange for author visits on a regular basis to talk to students about their careers and published works. Recent visits have included Chris d’Lacey, Julia Golding and John Brindley.

Newspaper Discussion Group

This meets in the library each Wednesday at 8:20am to discuss the latest interesting or quirky news items. Past topics have included; MPs expenses; banning high heels in the House of Commons; Cambridge admitting to not reading personal statements; and is meditation to be added to the curriculum? All students are invited to join in these lively debates.
