Book trailer workshop
This is run by the School Library Service but is hosted in a school as part of the Essex Book Award scheme. Chelmsford County High School has hosted this event on a number of occasions with colleagues of IntoFilm sharing their knowledge of making stop motion trailers on the six shortlisted books helping the students enter their creations into a competition.
Six authors are chosen to compete for the Essex Book Award coveted title and the launch starts with a drama workshop attended by students across the county. The award competition lasts for six months with students voting for their favourite title and the winner is announced in a ceremony in March.
The staff of Chelmsford County High School have run several charity weeks to raise money for the Living Hope School in Uganda. Students came along to take part in the various activities on offer including making Christmas trees and hedgehogs out of old books; watching a film; eating a cream tea and buying books in the book sale. All of the money raised was donated to the Living Hope School in Uganda.
World Book Day
Every year the CCHS library has celebrated World Book Day on the first Thursday of March with quizzes and other activities such as author visits. Well known children’s authors have visited the library in past years including Sally Nicholls, Sophie Bennett, Julia Green, Joss Stirling to name but a few. In 2018 the Year 7 students were pleased to meet Andrew Lane who is the author of the Young Sherlock Holmes series of books. Holly Smale will be visiting in 2019 – come back to the website to see the photos at the end of March.
