CCHS celebrates an outstanding crop of A level results

Posted: 15th August 2019

The students of Chelmsford County High School for Girls have once again shown that they can compete with the very best in the country across the whole range of A level subjects. The students and the School are today celebrating outstanding results with 84% of A level grades being at A*, A or B. Indeed 22% of all results were at A* and 58% at A* or A.

Top performing student was Julie Tang who achieved an incredible 5 A* grades and is to study Natural Sciences at Cambridge. CCHS has cemented its reputation as the school of choice for young women who wish to study Science; of the nine other students who achieved three or four A* grades another three are to study Natural Sciences at Cambridge, three will study Medicine, one Mathematics, one Civil Engineering and one Psychology. At a time when women are still under-represented in STEM subjects CCHS is proud of the way its students are continuing to break barriers and challenge stereotypes. Of particular note are the achievements of Ina Kruger, Kat

e Routledge and Cindy Wu, each of whom achieved four A* grades. Ina recently represented Great Britain at the International Biology Olympiad in Hungary, achieving the highest score of anyone in the UK team and coming 66th in the world. Along with all our other students Ina is clearly incredibly well placed to succeed in her chosen course at university.

Additionally, all five of those students holding offers for Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine were successful in achieving their places. In Medicine the school’s success rate was far in advance of the national average. We have been particularly pleased this year by the number of students who have chosen to study architecture and offer particular congratulations to Joanna Holland, Lalia Saidy Khan and Lizzy Quaye all of whom joined CCHS for their Sixth Form studies and have achieved the excellent grades that will enable them to study this challenging subject.

However, the students’ success is by no mea

ns confined to STEM subjects. We have also seen excellent performances from Helen King, Vanessa Tang and Caitlin Farrell who achieved two A* grades in their strongest subjects. Helen and Vanessa will read History at the University of Cambridge and Caitlin will read English Literature, also at Cambridge. Moreover, in terms of the creative & performing arts and languages, Art, Theatre Studies, German and Mandarin secured 100% A*-B grades. We congratulate all those who have been successful in achieving university places to read a range of subjects from Japanese to Geography and Law to Languages.

The school and I congratulate all our A level students on their hard work and excellent results. Clearly their parents and their teachers also deserve mention for the support and challenges which they have offered over the years.  As I retire after nearly 13 years at CCHS, I am particularly proud of our outstanding results.  My successor Mr Stephen Lawlor is inheriting a school in fine shape and well placed to benefit from the exciting campus developments ahead.

I wish all our leavers every success in the future.
