As part of our Women’s History Month celebrations today we remember the work of CCHS alumna Mary Kenyon who was our Head Girl in 1939. Following her time at CCHS Mary studied English at Oxford (where she was tutored by JRR Tolkien) before she served in the famous Hut 6 at Bletchley Park. Before her passing in 2017 Mary returned to the school on a number of occasions to share with staff and students her incredible memories of this time: Working at Bletchley Park during WWII by former student – Chelmsford County High School for Girls (cchs.co.uk). Our Mary Kenyon lecture room now hosts events for The CCHS Institute and is a wonderful way for the school to celebrate her legacy.
