Physics is taught throughout the school as a discrete subject. In Years 7 and 8 pupils have two lessons per fortnight, during which they cover the KS3 content. Pupils start the AQA Physics 4451 GCSE course in Year 9 where they have two lessons per fortnight and continue studying the GCSE course in Years 10 and 11 where they have 5 and 4 lessons per fortnight respectively. They take the P1 module examination in the summer of Year 10, and the P2 and P3 modules at the end of Year 11.

Physics A level is very popular with over 40 students studying AS level this year (OCR Physics A specification). We currently have 3 teaching groups in the lower VI and 2 groups in the upper VI. Next year we are teaching both A level and IB Physics (Standard Level and Higher Level).

There is a weekly lunchtime Physics help workshop for Sixth Form students and we run a couple of afterschool Physics ´Masterclasses´ each year aimed at external as well as CCHS students.

We have just received the 2009 GCSE Award from the ´Good Schools Guide´ for the best results achieved by girls taking Physics at an English school.
