Physical Education

Physical Education has an important place in the curriculum and is a compulsory subject throughout the school. It is a core subject of the National Curriculum and is taught and assessed as such. There is an 8 level scale of attainment in Physical Education. Girls will be assessed when they enter the school in September of Year 7 to ascertain their level of performance on entry in this subject.

The School runs teams in hockey, netball, gymnastics, swimming, football, cross-country and athletics. These teams are coached to compete at the highest level they can achieve. Individuals are encouraged to represent District, County and Regional Squads. There is a good history of producing girls who compete (and are successful) for national honours. In some sports there is close co-operation with local clubs where there is high quality coaching and girls are encouraged to pursue their sport within the local community.

Dance is a very popular and highly successful non-competitive activity. There is an annual dance show for students in all years. Many students now take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and improvers sessions are often held in a variety of activities. Wherever possible senior students are encouraged to develop their leadership skills through coaching, managing and organising the younger age groups.

In July 2002, CCHS was awarded with the Sportsmark Gold from Sport England.

Physical Education continues into the upper sixth form for all students and at present AS Dance is an option in sixth form P.E.

We aim to offer as wide a range of activities as possible in the sixth form, encouraging the students to fully realise the importance of everyone developing a healthy, active life-style. Self Defence is offered in the upper sixth.
