Swimathon

On 11th December 2008, girls who represent the school in various sporting activities plus a few extras entered into a CCHS PE swimathon. Over 125 girls took part with the largest number coming from Year 8. The swimathon was a team event with each team dressing up in fancy dress. With some outfits easier to swim in than others all the girls worked extremely hard and made the event a lot of fun. The girls had to swim as many lengths as they could as individuals and as a team. All teams swum for 45 minutes in total. The wonderful sports officials had the lovely job of counting for each team.

Once the girls had dried off and recovered, the hardest task was for the girls to collect in their sponsor money. Most of the money has now been handed in though 10 girls still need to bring their money in (you know who you are). The girls have done amazingly well and have at present raised £2560. The money is needed to pay towards our transport to fixtures throughout the year. The school funds used to pay for this in the past but with the lack of funds the school has and the fact school funds need to be shared more equally within the school, it was an urgent matter to find the money from another source or we would have had to withdraw from all the leagues and National competitions something none of the PE department were willing to do.

A massive thank you to all the girls who took part, to staff, girls and anyone who sponsored someone, to all the parents who helped the girls dress up, to all the sports officials who helped on the day and also drenched me and finally to the PE department for helping make it happen.

Several prizes were presented to the girls who swam the furthest, raised the most amount of money and who had the best fancy dress. Well done to all those girls.
