Essex Netball Cup 2008-9
This year we entered both our U.14 and U.16 squads into the Essex Netball Cup which is a knock-out cup tournament.
The U.16 squad (made up of Year 10 & 11 students) had to play Coopers Coborn School, Havering in the first round and though they fought hard they were beaten 12-18. The U.14 squad (made up of Year 8 & 9 students) were more successful having beaten Beauchamps School, Wickford 29-2 in the first round, they met Barking Abbey School, Barking in the second round. Barking Abbey travelled to CCHS arriving for an early start in order to ensure the game was played before darkness. CCHS started well, leading in the first 5 minutes by 3 goals, Barking Abbey settled down and crept ahead by 4 goals at half time. The third quarter was pretty even with still a four goal difference splitting the team. However, the very tall shooter was causing CCHS defence problems having got her eye in and rarely missing. The fourth quarter started tensely with both teams scoring off their centre passes, finally CCHS turned around one of Barking Abbey´s centres helping to reduce the goal difference. The game continued end to end with both teams playing thrilling netball. As the final whistle went, though having won the fourth quarter CCHS were defeated 18-21. We wish Barking Abbey all the best in the next round of the Cup.

Netball Friendlies
We had a new very early friendly fixture with Great Baddow this year, where we took 40 Yr7 girls to Great Baddow. This fixture was a great success as it allowed the girls to play lots of different players and understand what happens at away fixtures. Four CCHS teams played five Great Baddow teams allowing teachers from both schools to look at the talent they had and decide what positions each girl might suit. All the girls seemed to really enjoy the fixture especially as all four CCHS teams won their games. Both schools look forward to next year´s fixture.
A second fixture was made for later on in the year with Great Baddow and Broxbourne School, Hertfordshire. This time U.14, U.16 and U.19 teams would play each other. Each game consisted of 3x7 minutes in order for different combinations to be played. Our U.16 squad could not attend as it was during their mock examinations. The U.19 team played extremely well and only lost to Great Baddow by 2 goals. Broxbourne were a stronger team and CCHS lost 5-14. The U.14 team won against Great Baddow by 1 goal which was a brilliant result as Great Baddow had just qualified for the Regional round of the Schools Netball Championships. Broxbourne were again stronger and beat CCHS 17-6. All the girls seemed to enjoy the high level of competition and we look forward to meeting them next year.
MESSSA Netball League
The Year 12/13 team has completed their season already with some mixed results. This was partly down to not all the girls being available to play in all the matches. Having lost to Boswells 18-24 and Great Baddow 13-21 in their first two matches of the season they went on to beat St John Payne 17-12. St Martin’s school withdrew from the competition and the Brentwood match could not be rearranged.
Players: Rebecca Sanders, Georgina Fenton, Ali De Planta, Katherine McKenna, Nicola Moorhead, Cassie Goodfellow, Jodie Schultz, Rashmine Sethi, Grace Smalley, Charlotte Bear, Laura Hynard.
Yr10/11
The Year 10/11 team started the season extremely well this year beating Boswells 20-6 and St John Payne 21-8. Hylands came to play them in October and again the CCHS girls were successful winning 30-12. Great Baddow had to concede the points as they could not get a team. The girls went on to play Chelmer Valley at the start of November and lost 11-30 though it was a thrilling game to watch and umpire and the score does not reflect how hard our girls worked. The Year 10/11 team still have one more game to play against St Martins on the 29th January, we wish them the best of luck.
Year 10/11 Squad members: Ailish Wincott, Charlotte Besley, Kirstie Lamb, Isobel Hare, Annahita Roohi, Fiona Tomczynska, Cathy Nicholls, Rhiannon Smith, Bethanie Griffiths, Lottie Malton, Mary Heartshrone, Amy Fairchild.
Year 9
Having won Division 2 last year, the year 9 team were promoted to Division 1 where they would now play the best school teams in the MESSSA districts. This has shown in some of their results. Year 9 played Great Baddow at home in their first match and though they played well, Great Baddow won 25-16. The girls played Boswells next and in an extremely thrilling match, CCHS won 23-22. William De Ferrers were their next opponents and CCHS lost 21-18. Year 9 still have St Martins and Brentwood to play on January 28th and March 11th 2009 we wish them the best of luck for those matches.
Players: Alicia Cork, Hatty Norman, Lauren Kiff, Eloise Robinson, Jenny Dale, Vashini Pulendran, Priory Bazley, Rachel Vincent, Sarah Hayter
Year 8
Having won the Division 2 last season and also being promoted Division 1 the girls were hoping to start this season the way they had finished 2007-8. Year 8´s first game was against Boswells where they played brilliantly winning 16-5. A great start for 2008-9. They then met Shenfield for the first time ever and though they played very well, the roughness of the opposition took its toll and they lost in the final seconds by 1 goal, 14-15. Next year the girls will be ready for them and the result will be a different story. The Year 8 B team also played Shenfield where they won 16-2. Year 8 still have three games left to play this season against Brentwood, St Martins and Great Baddow, we wish them all the success and best of luck.
Players: Meg Clark, Lucy Spence, Louise Brooks, Ellie Crawley, Charlotte Everett, Abi Ashford, Nicole Leonhardt, Flora Raybould, Eleanor Jones.
B team players/reserves: Charlotte Deans, Lorna Galbraith, Emily Bunn, Izzabella Kala, Natalie Du Preez, Ella Drake, Paige Henry, Maddie Deasey, Isla Stevens, Eloise Falconer, Brogan Harman.
