There is a fine tradition of musical performance at Chelmsford County High School. Many students play at least one instrument and are involved in the many musical activities at lunchtimes and after school.

The school has two large orchestras- a Concert orchestra (grade 4-5) and a Symphony orchestra (grade 6-8). The orchestras play a varied and wide repetoire of music from Beethoven's 5th Symphony through to modern day musicals.

There are also three choirs- a year 7 choir, a junior choir and a senior choir. The choirs sing a range of music varying from traditional folk songs to modern popular songs. The Swing band and Wind band enable students to play jazz pieces as well as 20th Century music. These clubs are lively and fun. The Recorder consort allows experienced students to perform exciting Chamber music.
