Course Details
The course encourages students to become informed performers, skilled composers and understanding listeners.
- Component 1: 60%
- The student must perform 3 pieces on their chosen instrument (at least 1 solo and 1 ensemble). The student must compose 2 pieces which must be appraised and recorded.
- Component 2: 15%
- This component is a timed examination (30 mins.) in which the student must compose a melody from a given stimuli.
- Component 3: 25%
- A written paper (1 hr.) in which students respond to a variety of musical styles which have been studied over the two years. The students learn about Baroque and Classical music traditions, as well as, 19th Century Viennese Waltz, 1970's and 1980's Disco music, Salsa and minimalism.
