English
English is a popular and highly successful subject in the school.
The English Department presently consists of three full time and two part-time specialist teachers. As well as drama (of which the standard is high in the school) other extra-curricular activities associated with the English Department are debating, public speaking and theatre visits.
GCSE
At GCSE students follow the OCR syllabus for English and English Literature and all pupils are entered for the Higher Tier. The students are taught in equal sets in Years 10 and 11. GCSE results are excellent, with a substantial proportion of students gaining starred A grades in each subject. In Years 7 and 8 pupils are taught in class groups, sitting the Key Stage 3 SAT at the end of Year 8.
Sixth Form
Students currently follow Edexcel English Literature syllabus 9180, taking the coursework options for Unit 3 (Shakespeare) and Unit 4 (Modern Prose).
