This course is aimed at those students who would like to further their studies in Technology, and who have a genuine interest in designing and making.

Students should have a strong interest in designing, modelling, making and evaluating products or systems, and the processes and products used.

This course is designed to be either a complimentary subject to Mathematics, Physics, Art and Design or a contrasting subject with English, History, Geography and Modern Languages.

The aims of the course is to encourage students to:

  • Develop creativity and design and technology capability, and to produce high-quality products
  • Develop a critical understanding of the influences and products of design from a historical present-day perspective
  • Apply essential knowledge, understanding and skills of design production and industrial processes
  • Use ICT to enhance and develop their ability
  • Develop an understanding of Health and Safety, spiritual, moral, ethical, social and cultural awareness and to develop critical evaluation skills in these contexts
  • Develop as discerning customers able to make informed choices

It is expected that students applying for this course will have achieved an A*-B grade in GCSE Technology.
