Art & Design - North American Indian Day 2004
On 11th June 2004, a special cross curricular day was arranged by staff at Chelmsford County High School aimed at providing all of the year eight students with a greater understanding of the Native Peoples of North America. The girls were given the opportunity to learn through a unique and positive experience.
The day was made particularly memorable by the presence of two visiting stone carvers, Mo Gardner and Anthony Lysycia and an artist who makes and decorates tepees, Graham Joyce. Students also took part in music, craft, drama, ecology, story telling and other activities.
The students were appreciative and commented that "stone carving was a once in a life time experience - challenging but fun", "It was superb!", "We learnt a new way of life. Now I would like to be a North American Indian- I really liked their way of life".
Below are some photos of the day. Please click on a photo to view a larger version.
