Art & Design - Caribbean Day 2005

On 9th February 2005, a special cross curricular day was arranged by staff at Chelmsford County High School aimed at providing all of the year 8 students with an insight into the Caribbean people and their way of life. It is hoped that through participation in various activities including Art, English, Music, Dance, Geography, History, Science and Religious Studies the students were given the opportunity to learn about this rich culture through a unique and positive experience.

To make this day particularly memorable various visitors were invited into the school to contribute to this event. We were entertained with a Steel Pan performance and workshop by the Ebony Steel Band, experienced a taste of African and Caribbean dance fusion with the Erie Dance company whose tutors are both professional performers and/or choreographers. Students were also given the opportunity to enjoy reggae, rap and carnival with the Poet Anita Marie Sackett. In addition to all of this we built a giant collage in the art department and science introduced the students to some reef sharks!

Below are some photos of the day. Please click on a photo to view a larger version.
