Dame Margaret Anstee DCMG
The first female Under-Secretary General of the United Nations, and the first woman to head a UN military peacekeeping operation. In the 1994 New Year´s Honours List, Queen Elizabeth II made her a Dame Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George. She has also been honoured by the Governments of Austria, Bolivia and Morocco. Honorary fellow of Newnham College, Cambridge and the University of London. Awarded the Reeves Peace Prize (US), and has honorary doctorates from the universities of Essex, Westminster and London.
