Design and Technology

Key Stage 3

In Key Stage 3 Design and Technology, we deliver a range of projects per year in various material areas including CAD/CAM, Textiles, Electronics, Graphics and Resistant Materials. Students will also learn basic Food Technology skills.

Key Stage 4

The students can opt to study programs from Edexcel in Graphic Products or Textiles at GCSE level. Each course has a coursework element which comprises of a written portfolio and practical element as well as a final examination.

Graphic Products – Students develop their understanding of graphics materials, manufacturing and finishing techniques to make Graphic Products ranging from Perfume Packaging to Paper/card Engineering.

Textiles – Students learn many more construction techniques and pattern following skills as well as disassembly to enable them to make a garment. In Year 11 they can opt to produce a further garment or interior furnishing item of their choice for their major project.

Key Stage 5

We offer the OCR Product Design A- Level. This course allows students to work in their preferred material area or experience a range of materials. It promotes creativity and innovation with a range of modules. Over the 2 year course they are expected to produce two coursework projects, sit a design examination and a theory examination.
